The above pictured PDF file is a copy of the presentation given by the President, John Barnes, on behalf of the Management Committee of the club outlining the 2009 program of events for the year.
We firmly believe that this program sets out the best possible option to satisfy as many member requirements within the club as possible, a club with a very wide range in taste in terms of photography styles, genres and of course technologies in terms of prints, slides or digital images.

We focused very much on the number and style of competitions, our ability to educate both the experienced and inexperienced photographer, sought to widen the breadth of knowledge about photography styles and techniques that can be applied across a range of styles within the club and attract top class speakers while also allowing us to show case our own members considerable talents.
As always the committee welcomes constructive feedback on everything we do on behalf of the members and see this as no different. Feedback should be sent via the club secretary:

Giora Dan is a documentary and commercial photographer based in Christchurch.
His documentary career started with a body of work about the diversity of ethnic and religious groups in Christchurch.

This took the New Zealand Geographic's interest and soon after Giora was on his way to Tuvalu with editor Kennedy Warne.
Since then Giora has completed a number of stories for the NZ Geographic with such diverse subjects as; Moonshine Festival in Gore, dying in NZ, and volunteer fire fighters.
In 2006/07 Giora worked with a group of international photographers on a series of books that looks at UNESCO world heritage sites and the human interaction with them.
He is currently an 'on call' photographer for the IFRC (Red Cross/Crescent Federation) for the Asia-Pacific region.
Giora is also a commercial photographer in Christchurch and mostly photographs fashion, food and editorial.

The 12th Laurie Thomas New Zealand Landscape Salon concluded successfully on 23rd July with an exhibition at the CPS clubrooms of all award-winning images before a large audience comprising both CPS members and visitors.
The Champion Slide was Easterly Blow by Georgie McKie FPSNZ Christchurch. (shown below)

The Silver medal in this section also went to Georgie McKie FPSNZ with her entry entitled Frosty Grazing.
Steven Wright ANPSNZ, Christchurch won Bronze with his entry Tidal Creation.
Four Honours certificates were awarded for slide images:
Newell Grenfell HonPSNZ,FPSNZ,FNPSNZ, Christchurch, When Winter Comes
Rohan Worland LPSNZ from NSW Australia for Te Anau Sunburst and Red Shed;
Ron McKie FPSNZ ARPS Christchurch for Sunkissed Slopes.
The Champion Digital image was Farewell Sandscape by Ron Willems FPSNZ, AFIAP, ARPS, AAPS of Christchurch.
Roger Brownsey FPSNZ from Tokoroa was awarded the Silver medal for Morning's First Touch and Allan McGregor LPSNZ Christchurch won Bronze for Storm at Punakaiki.

Six images were awarded Honours in the Digital class:

Brian Cudby FPSNZ Auckland for Pohutu Geyser, Rotorua.

Jim Harding, Christchurch for Winter Symmetry (shown above),
Shona Kebble APSNZ Auckland for Resting Place,
Glenn Symon, Dunedin for Sutton Salt Lake Sunset and Ron Willems FPSNZ AFIAP ARPS AAPS Christchurch for Autumn's End.
A very high standard is always set for this Salon and this year was no exception. The authors of the 30 slides and 122 digital images achieving Acceptance or above are to be congratulated.
This Landscape Salon was established in 1997 and is run by the Christchurch Photographic Society in memory of former member the late Laurie Thomas, using part of a generous legacy he left to the Society. He was a keen photographer of the New Zealand landscape using the medium of slides.
The 13th Salon will be held in 2009.
