Dianne Calvert APSNZ

I have been basically doing my ‘own thing’ with photography for the past thirty years but in 2002 I realised that I actually wasn’t taking many photos and what I was taking I wasn’t happy with. I needed help. I joined CPS in 2003. I very quickly learned what was wrong with my photos when listening to the competition judge’s comments.

I think the competitions are a great way to get feedback about your work, it’s also interesting to see what other people are doing with their photography, I find it very inspiring.

I am now back on track with my photography, taking more images than I ever have. I enjoy it immensely.

Images I enjoy taking best would be Landscape and Nature photography as I love being in the outside wilderness especially seeing NZ’s fauna in its natural environment. I also ‘have a go’ at all other sorts of photography – it’s a challenge to ‘make an interesting image’ of a new subject.

Equipment: Six months after joining CPS I changed from a film camera (Nikon 601 SLR) to a digital camera (Fuijifilm S2 Pro DSLR). I love using digital and will never go back to film. I use three lenses, namely: 17mm – 35mm zoom, 28 – 105 zoom/macro, 100mm – 300 telephoto. I like using my wide angle best.
