Pamela Cumming APSNZ

At times I am thought of as being a flower photographer, but when I look through my images I find such a mixture, that I do not know what would define me. Although I notice that I do not have any images of sport, architecture, and not many of people.

I think that what I like is anything that is timeless, romantic, ethereal, and that I would like it on my wall. When I joined CPS, in 2001, I was blown away with the images I saw, and my mind worked overtime which meant sleepless nights.

I have been a Police Forensic Photographer for 23 years, retiring in 2002, and my work was very factual work with no licence to put your own interpretation or feelings into an image. I was very satisfied with my career, and having a camera in my hand every day, I never went down the track of taking photos as an art form.

I had so much to learn, about composition in particular, and by being a member of CPS and sitting and listening to the judges and their comments I learnt so much, and still learning. I just love getting out with my camera to take photos, and it is a bit like the fisherman, who at times never gets a bite, and other times it is the one that got away, but every now and again you get the big one - the one with the X-factor!
