THE LAURIE THOMAS NEW ZEALAND LANDSCAPE SALON is an annual competition for 35mm slides of the New Zealand landscape.
It was initiated by the Christchurch Photographic Society in 1997 in memory of one of its most famous members and a pioneer member of The Photographic Society of New Zealand, the late Laurie Thomas APSA.
All landscape photographers can enter the Salon. They do not have to be members of a camera club or The Photographic Society of New Zealand. Each entrant may submit up to four 35mm slides.
The slides are assessed by a panel of three judges, alternating each year between the North Island and South Island. The winner receives (to keep) a trophy depicting elements of the New Zealand landscape, specially designed by Lesley Sales FPSNZ. Silver and Bronze medals as well as Honours and Acceptance certificates are awarded. Each entrant receives a full-colour catalogue in which around 80 of the best slides are reproduced.
The Salon closing date each year is the first week in June.
