The 11th Laurie Thomas New Zealand Landscape Salon concluded successfully on 25th July with an exhibition of all award-winning images before a large audience comprising both CPS members and visitors.

This year, in addition to the traditional slides of former Laurie Thomas Salons, a digital section was introduced. With each section being judged separately, two trophies have been awarded, one for the Champion Slide, the other for the Champion Digital Image.

In the Slide section, the Champion was Ligar Bay by Greg Cameron APSNZ of Tauranga. The Silver Medal was awarded to The Night God Spoke by Newell Grenfell FPSNZ FNPSNZ, and the Bronze Medal to New Brighton Pier by Michael Treloar. Images gaining Honours Certificates were Warming Light by Ron McKie FPSNZ ARPS, Winter Mantle by Bevan Tulett FPSNZ, and Sunset Tauranga Bay by Stephen Wright ANPSNZ .

In the Digital section the Champion Image was Linear Landscape by Kevin Bowie of Rangiora. The Silver Medal was awarded to Tangarakau Gorge Stream by John Greenwood, and Bronze Medals went to Birdlings Flat Sunset by Ian Kington APSNZ, and Cape Egmont by Christine Penn APSNZ.

Honours Certificates were awarded to the following images: Franz Josef in the Mist by Shelley Ball LPSNZ LNPSNZ; Wharariki Sand Dunes by Barbara Burry APSNZ; Ratana Church, Raetihi, by Brian Cudby FPSNZ; Ruapehu Crater Lake by John Greenwood; Sailor’s Warning by Ian Jones; After the Big Snow by Ian Kington APSNZ; Approaching Front by John O’Malley; Heaven and Earth by Steve Rutherford AIPP.

A very high standard is always set for this Salon. The authors of the 35 slides and 74 digital images achieving Acceptance or above are to be congratulated.

This landscape Salon was established in 1997 by the Christchurch Photographic Society in memory of former member the late Laurie Thomas, using part of a generous legacy he left to the Society. He was a keen photographer of the New Zealand landscape using the medium of slides.

The12th Salon will be held in 2008.

The trophy is kept permanently by those who win it.
It was designed by Christchurch Photographic Society  member Lesley Sales FPSNZ  and made in Christchurch by Artifex.
