Patron of CPS - Paul Kennedy

by Virginia Clegg - Editor

Paul's Natural History work leaves one in awe and his landscape work is marvellous. Paul is possessed of a quiet, patient manner.

An excellent eye, a superior technique and a sound understanding of light have been 'honed over many years. We see Cibachrome prints of wonderful quality.

International acclaim recognised by the impressive number of letters after his name is not surprising. He is our most decorated member in CPS and a long standing one.

Paul joined CPS in 1951 when he was 14. Parental influence persuaded him to get on with his studies so he left photography alone for a long time, eventually rejoining in 1988.

His service record includes committee at CPS, PSNZ Honours Board, PSNZ Council for a year or two, and now Patron of CPS.

He has presented very successful audio-visuals over the years.

Most recently he was awarded first in nature section in the Adelaide Festival as he was two years previously. He says this is a good way to use the thousands of slides in his collection.

In his early days he did wedding and candid photography. He also dabbled in black and white as a teenager.

In 1987 Paul attended a Continuing Education course at Canterbury University on macro photography. This set him on a trail he has pursued ever since.

His competitive nature, hard work and dedication has bought him considerable success.

He had a dream not just to be a good photographer but to be one of the best. This he has realised. Paul says success relies on immediate impact with a judge.

Now he has time to plan photographs. To consider the light and the time of day. This patient man is a master of his craft.

We can all learn from Paul who gives advice willingly.

We are glad to welcome him as our patron.
